MCK presented its annual spring concert on April 26 and performed as part of a massed concert on May 3, presented by the the Mohawk Hudson Male Chorus Association. For more information about the massed concert, click here.

The Mendelssohn Club of Kingston performs in and around the city of Kingston. Each December we present a standing-room-only concert at the venerable Old Dutch Church, our current rehearsal site. We have been fortunate to have the award-winning Kingston High School Choir and Kingston High School Brass Choir perform with us annually for the past ten years.

The spring concert is held in late April or early May at St. James Church in Kingston.

The club performs in a wide variety of musical styles, including sacred, classical, spiritual, theater, folk, popular, and operetta.

The club was founded in 1903 and with the exception of the war years has presented performances annually. Previous conductors have included Albert G. Hunter, J. Anthony Hummel, and J. Brian Steeves.

As stated in its bylaws, the club's purpose is "to promote interest in choral group singing...to promote friendship, sociability, and culture among friends of music...and to lawfully do any and all things necessary, suitable, and proper, for the accomplishment of these purposes."

The club is pleased to be an active member of the Conductors Club and of the Mohawk-Hudson Male Chorus Association and is well represented in the Yankee Male Chorus, which performs annually in Vermont and New Hampshire.

The club  presented its 100th anniversary concert on April 26, 2003, at St. James United Methodist Church. The club was joined by the Kingston High School Band, Jazz Band, Choir, and the Women's Chorus of the Hudson Valley.

On April 24, 2004, MCK hosted the massed concert sponsored by the Mohawk-Hudson Male Chorus Association. The performance took place at St. James Church in Kingston. Participating along with MCK were the Catskill Glee Club and the Hendrick Hudson Male Chorus.

There are currently 50 singing members in the club. Annual dues are $10. There is no minimum membership age; however, we prefer to work with changed voices. There are no formal auditions or music-reading requirements. With the approval of the director, we welcome new singers at any time during a rehearsal period.

D. A. Goodemote is in his first year as conductor of the MCK, having served previously as its assistant conductor for 28 seasons.

Mr. Goodemote began teaching in the Kingston school system in 1969 and retired, as Deputy Superintendent, in 2001. Prior to moving into public school administration, he taught voice and music theory and served as J. Brian Steeves' assistant at Kingston High School.

He received his B.F.A. in music education from the State University of New York (Buffalo) and earned an M.S. in educational administration from SUNY New Paltz.

He is married to Patricia Webb and lives in Rhinebeck, New York.
